Meet at 7:30 am in front of your hotel in Las Terrenas with your private taxi for a 2.5-hour drive to San Francisco de Marcoris, home to the organic cacao farm. This hacienda has been dedicated to cacao cultivation for over 100 years. This long experience and the techniques developed over time have allowed them to produce the high-quality chocolate we see today.

The journey will give you the opportunity to appreciate the diverse Dominican landscapes, from rolling hills and breathtaking views overlooking the sea to rice paddies, plains, and pastures. You will travel through numerous villages bustling with small shops and the rhythm of daily life.

Upon arrival at the hacienda, you will be welcomed with a hot chocolate to start your day off right.

For 2.5 hours, you will visit the plantation and chocolate factory to learn about every step from the planted bean to the final product: chocolate! You will also discover the history of cacao and traditional techniques.

 

After this informative tour, you will be able to create your own chocolate figurine, a wonderful experience and a fantastic souvenir to take home.

But before concluding the tour, you will participate in a unique tasting experience, a tasting that engages all five senses.

 

Finally, you will enjoy a typical Dominican lunch.

In the afternoon, a historical visit awaits you before returning to Las Terrenas.

Your taxi will take you to the Mirabal Sisters Museum.

 

The Mirabal sisters were three Dominican activists opposed to the dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo in the 1950s. On the regime's orders, they were brutally murdered on November 25, 1960.

Their deaths sparked outrage throughout the country, which contributed to the fall of the dictatorship the following year.

They became national heroines and, far beyond that, a true global symbol of the fight against violence against women. November 25 is a day dedicated to their memory, as well as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

The museum was created in their family home, preserved exactly as it was in the 1950s. More than just a museum, a visit here is a true journey back in time.

 

Before heading back, you'll stop at a shop offering a wide variety of typical Dominican products, perfect for picking up some souvenirs and sampling even more local delicacies.
