a day in santo domingo
Historical and Cultural Immersion
Santo Domingo is the oldest city in the Americas built by Europeans. Its colonial zone is therefore a highly historic site, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
We offer this walking or cycling excursion to immerse yourself in this rich historical past. Between the charm of the cobblestone streets, the beauty of the old buildings, and the festive Dominican atmosphere, don't miss a single detail of the explanations (in your language) from your dedicated official national guide for the day.
WALKING TOUR
You will meet your guide at 9:00 AM directly in the Colonial Zone. Then you will embark on a walking tour of approximately 3 hours and 45 minutes. (A taxi can be arranged from your accommodation.)
On the planning:
- The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Incarnation, the first building constructed in the early 16th century.
- Calle de Las Damas, lined with colonial houses and buildings, the oldest street in the city.
- The National Pantheon, the final resting place of important figures in the history of the Dominican Republic.
- The vast Plaza de España (Spain Square).
- The Alcázar de Colón, the first fortified palace in the New World.
- A shopping break.
- A 7-minute 4D film about the Battle of Santo Domingo and the pirate Drake.
After this busy morning, a buffet lunch awaits you at a local Dominican restaurant.
Then the day continues with a visit to the "Los 3 Ojos" (Three Eyes) caves.
Around 2:00 PM, a taxi will pick you up to take you to this exceptional natural site right in the heart of the city. A striking contrast awaits you, accompanied by your official guide.
These caves house in incredible underground blue freshwater lake. This place was also frequented by the Taíno people in ancient times.
The visit lasts approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes, including a unique boat trip inside one of the caves.
Finally, you will return by taxi to the starting point.
